Warmest of greetings on this crispy cold day, art lovers!
It’s a gorgeously sunny and breezy first day of December Day here in North Texas. We’re 4 days away from kicking off our first Winter Show, titled Contemporary Elements. This is the show to find a perfect one-of-a-kind gift for a one-of-a-kind person. So, a gentle “nudge-nudge” reminder…
The Opening Reception is (First) Thursday, December 4 from 6-9pm. Learn more.
?
We’ll be serving wine, Italian soda and light fare. The Contemporary Elements show features fabulous new works in forged steel and copper by James Johnson, metalsmith; colorful handformed glass by Scott Young, glass maker; and contemporary-meets-antique jewelry from Bobbie Nix, jewelry artist. The show runs from Thursday, December 4 to Saturday, January 3, 2009.
In conjunction with the show we’re kicking off our annual art251 Winter Sale a month early. We’re offering up to 25 percent off on many works throughout the gallery. We recommend you come in to see our discounts, starting on December 5, and/or check out our website for further details. We don’t negotiate prices, so December and January are an ideal time to pick up that special artwork that you’ve had your eye on for yourself or as a unique gift of art.

| New Arrivals: Distinctive new works |
art251 welcomed 4 new artists this November, Vesna Komarica, Ashley Akers, Ginny Henley and Mirtha Aertker.
Vesna Komarica paints in oils and encaustics. Her subjects range from still lifes to landscapes with subtle gradations of tone, flattened perspectives and bold textures. We are delighted to have 4 of Vesna?s paintings, including 2 beautiful encaustics. Vesna’s works have won several awards, including 2006 Best in Show at Emerging Artists Group.
Ashley Akers is a contemporary jewelry artist. She specializes in rings, necklaces and bracelets using natural river rocks, sterling silver and semi-precious gemstones. All her work has a modern and simple design, backed by fine craftsmanship. She designs and makes all her own pieces.
Ginny Henley loves to live in the 21st century, exploring new media for her artistic visions. Her new direction involves contemporary jewelry made from polymer clay and set in silver and/or brass. Ginny’s unique pieces include: colorful necklaces and pendants, lightweight earrings and distinctive pins. In Ginny’s words, “When an artist encounters a new medium in a fine work there can be an instant recognition of an impending affair. It is in the gnawing desire, not for the object itself, but for an opportunity to dance with the medium from which it is made.”

Mirtha Aertker?s art is sometimes quirky and whimsical, sometimes dark, and always thoroughly unique. It’s a fusion of experiences from her travels abroad, and ongoing inspirations. She works primarily with ceramics and Raku firing. However, recently she has indulged in the versatility found in metal welding. Mirtha has a passion for pre-Columbian culture and other South American civilizations. Their designs often trickle into her pieces. She finds assemblage sculpture and mixed media pieces to be the easiest form of expression for her ideas, which are highly original and increasingly collectible.
