art251 News
Issue 10 July 2009
Greetings, art lovers!
It’s July, and the 4th is just around the corner. So, happy birthday United States! Talking of birthdays, a year ago, art251 had yet to open, half of our fixtures had yet to be installed, though the floor had already been stained in our beautiful bluish turquoise and we did have our lights and telephone service up and running. A year later we’ve been nominated as one of the best galleries in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area! Now, we’d like to win, so here’s where you come in… we need your VOTE!

Exciting Happenings at Arthouse
Some exciting things are coming to Arthouse starting in July. Beginning on July 11, Keller Farmer’s Market, sponsored by Arthouse, will be open around the Town Center fountain. The market will be open on Saturdays from 8am until 1pm.
The market will have a host of fun community-oriented activities, shopping and entertainment that will be ideal for th whole family. And of course, a wide variety of food from Texas farmers who live and work in an around Keller. You?ll find fruit, dairy, produce, specialty items like cheeses and baked goods, as
well as a fine collection of Texas-made arts and crafts.
Additionally, you?ll find organic products, flowers, and horticulture, and live cooking demonstrations from area chefs. We?ll also have attractions for health and wellness with free screenings, exercise classes, and education workshops on how to eat right and stay fit.
And that’s not all, Arthouse will have its very own upscale restaurant. Construction has begun, with an opening planned for mid-October!

July Feature: Don’t be afraid to ask
art251 is a commercial gallery, so of course we display and sell lots of great art. However, did you know that we can offer things to you that you may have been afraid to ask. For instance:
- We can find a certain type of art for you, or even a specific color spectrum or texture.
- We can secure art for you from a favorite artist even if the artist is not represented by art251.
- We can have an artist create a custom piece for you – many of our artists love to create custom works.
- We can offer gift certificates, which make ideal wedding gifts.
- We can lease and/or sell art to you or your business, helping you spread payments in a way that helps your budget. So, please don’t be afraid to ask your friendly art251 staff.

It?s time to cajole and coax you into voting for the 2009 best art gallery in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area.
The vote is run by local media WFAA and CityVote. It profiles local businesses and allows consumers to vote across a broad range of favorites from art galleries to zoos.

The competition in the art gallery space is tough this year, with numerous nominations, none of which I?ll mention here, except for, of course, art251. So, please check out the site, and give your favorite art gallery in Keller (or any other) your considered and precious vote.

By the way, the WFAAlist is a great resource for finding lots of other unique and highly recommended businesses in all manner of categories.

Ashley Akers is a jewelry artist who lives and works in Fort Worth, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas in 1999, studying under Harlan Butt.

Her current body of work, the Pebble Series, utilizes found river rocks and pebbles. Working at a garden shop filled with rocks led to these designs. With the pebble jewelry Ashley enjoys elevating the status of a found object (the pebbles) to that of a precious one. In her other collections she combines contrasting colors and textures with simple, modern designs.
Her work is made primarily with sterling silver and accented with semi-precious gemstones. All of Ashley?s work is hand fabricated and finished. Her main means of construction is soldering, although many of the pebble designs do incorporate tube rivets.
