The Artist Reception for "Visions and Variations" is November 11, from 6-9pm, and, it coincides with November’s City of Keller Gallery Walk.
Visions and Variations is our first dual artist show and features the original works of husband and wife artists, Ray Maines and Marie Maines. Through Marie’s subtle pastel drawings and Ray‘s fluid, geometric photographs we explore the effects of different media on the artists’ representation of our landscape.
Marie Maines focuses on landscapes, including both natural and manmade forms. Her images evolve from a strong emotional response to a visual experience. Then begins the battle with composition, color, light and space as she recaptures the initial response. Marie is a member of the Pastel Society of the Southwest. Her works have won numerous awards, and, increasingly, can be found in private, corporate and museum collections.
Ray Maines tends to see images which are abstract or which can be abstracted through the digital process. Fragments and details of objects, such as flowers, trees and buildings particularly attract his attention. He is a master of lighting his subjects creatively to render details in his final images that many would ordinarily miss. Ray is a retired commerical photographer and has a degree in illustrative photography.
